1.x release in production

Well, 'production' might be a bit pompous, but I'm working on a new release anyway. It includes a complete redesign of the cards, an actual manual, and some rule tweaks. It will probably be a bit more substantial update than a modest '1.1' so maybe I'll name it 1.5, actually. In any case, hopefully the new release will be out by the end of January!

GG Hype :)

The GameGame has received an encouraging reception from a number of sources. The latest plug flatters the proud father quite a bit: Edge Online

Nintendo, hello! I'm off for some travelling and freelance journalism. I will meet some Konami people, so...

GameGame 1.0 is out

Yep, finally. There are two files. First, the cards:

I hope they print out okay, I did some tweaking to the colors so that they would work better in B/W as well. I suggest they should be glued onto cardboard for better endurance.

Second, there is a rule manual, with some additional info about the concept and its premises:

Without doubt, there are rule omissions, typos, and such. Please comment on those here for version 1.1.

I would be very grateful to hear about any experiences with the game. Please use the comment function so that anyone visiting can see. You can also e-mail me directly. My thanks to everyone who goes into the trouble of setting the game up!

Release delayed

I'm sorry to say that the release has been delayed, I've had to prioritize other matters. GameGame 1.0 will be about in early September, I promise.

DiGRA paper on Gamegame

As another pre-release hype piece, I've posted my paper in the recent DiGRA International game studies conference in Vancouver. It introduces the premises of the project, some design notes, and play-testing experiences. You can download it here:

Theory as Game: Designing the GameGame

Pre-release hype!

The GameGame blog launches! It will be dedicated to sharing experiences about playing GameGame, my brainstorming card game about game design. The slogan 'Ludology meets Understanding Comics' refers to the two main inspirations behind the game: 1) Ludology, i.e. formal and holistic attitude to game studies and design, and 2) Scott McCloud's comic book on the aesthetics of comics. GameGame intends to present the theory of games in the form of a game, and also hopes to teach something about game design in the process. A PDF release of version 1.0 will follow during July!
